Carrollton, Texas is about a thirty minute drive north from Dallas and is located in Denton County, Dallas County and Collin County. The city was settled in 1842 by Jared Ford and it was named after Carrollton Illinois as many of the settlers to this area were from Carrollton. These early newcomers first built homes around what is known today as Perry-Park and currently about 120,000 residents live there. Carrollton is in the humid subtropical climate zone with humid, hot summers and cool mild winters.
There are several family friendly places to entertain visitors of all ages in Carrollton. The A.W.Perry Museum is a designated historical landmark and was first built here in 1857. The museum has a collection of interesting historical memorabilia giving guests a small glimpse of life at the turn of the 20th century. If visitors are looking for something to do outside, they may want to head over to the Elm Fork Nature Preserve. Activities include hiking, bird watching and a variety of educational classes. The 40 acre reserve is virtually undisturbed and is a great way to spend the day. Other local attractions include Historic Downtown Carrollton, Indian Creek Golf Club or the Oak Creek Tennis Center. Warm summers and mild winters make these Carrollton destinations a great place to explore any time of the year.
Warm summer weather is fantastic for golfers in Carrollton who get the opportunity to enjoy plenty of time out on the course. With temperatures averaging in the 90’s during these summer months and humidity levels in the 80’s, these residents look forward to cooling off at home with a well maintained air conditioner after a long day on the links.
